Exhibition
Gustav Klimt & Vienna 1910
The year 1910 marks the beginning of the era of Modern Art. Ornamentation gradually started makingway for the New Sobriety. The current exhibition "Gustav Klimt & Vienna 1910" at Österreichische Werkstätten shows Gustav Klimt as a painter of intense colours following his symbolic and golden periods. It was also during this period that the Werkbund movement came into being. You will easily recognize the new and pure design in the selected pieces of original furniture on display at our exhibition. Klimt‘s influence still has a strong influence on contemporary painting, and the design concept of his friend Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätte still serve as guidance for good design.
The construction of the Werkbundsiedlung was a major milestone in this era. The Werkbundsiedlung is regarded as a unique architectural treasure in Vienna to which a separate room has been dedicated at this exhibition.
Österreichische Werkstätten still follows the ideals of Wiener Werkstätte and Werkbund, and acts as an information center for Gustav Klimt.

Exhibition starts at June 17th 2010.
