His furniture designs - without any "trivial decoration" were a by-product of building contracts. The work carried out for the Weißenhofsiedlung (1927) project in Stuttgart, which he directed, made a lasting impression, as did the German Pavilion for the world exhibition in Barcelona which was designed and furnished by him.
