Germany - Darmstadt Artists' Colony ![]() Postcard with a view of the Christiansen house on the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, 1901. © Quittenbaum München, Jugendstil - Art Deco, 20th May 00' Instead of floral ornaments (Art Nouveau) abstract lines can be found in the works of the colony, sometimes characterised by almost classic reservation, sometimes in youthful agitation. The Darmstadt publisher Alexander Koch was an important proponent of this style with his magazines "Innendekoration" ("Interior decoration") and "Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration" ("German Art and Decoration"); these magazines are still amongst the most important sources in the field of art research.
