Exhibition Gustav Klimt & the Vienna Secession

The exhibition closes on Saturday, April 21st. Our new exhibition Gustav Klimt, Inspirations Reproductions Antiques opens on Monday, April 30th 2012.

The founding of the Vienna Secession was a major event at the start of a new era in art history. Gustav Klimt and his friend Josef Hoffmann were the influential leaders of the new movement. One of Klimt's most important works, the "Beethoven Frieze" was made for the Vienna Secession and is still diesplayed there.

The exhibition Gustav Klimt & the Vienna Secession focusses on three aspects.

Secession. Leaving historism behind by the artists of the Vienna Secession.

Gustav Klimt & Wiener Werkstätte. Gustav Klimt's unique form of symbolism and the new design language of Josef Hoffmann and Wiener Werkstätte.

Artistic Intervention.An artistic intervention that deals with the credo of the Vienna Secession: "To every age its art and to art its freedom"

The exhibition at Österreichische Werkstätten shows original furniture from the era around 1900 together with replicas of art nouveau accessoires and selenographic reproductions of Gustav Klimt's most famous works. Each of the objects shown in this exhibition even the original pieces from the ear around 1900 and the elements of the art intervention are available for purchase.
